Internationally recognized sculptor/artist/ceramicist William Jeffrey Jones is probably best known for his computer and gaming design, with companies such as the Four Horsemen, Spawn and Master Replicas, where he created figures for the likes of Buffy, Battlestar Gallactica, The Matrix, Resident Evil, Terminator, Predator, Spawn, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Chronicles Of Narnia, Sin City and many more. Brilliant sculpting skills
A longtime player, several years ago Jones turned his brilliant sculpting skills to guitar making, going on to complete forty or so instruments. His first few guitars, as he found his way, were based on the “big name” models by Fender and Gibson, but soon he developed a body size and shape he felt comfortable with and began spreading his luthier wings.
Air-dried southern Sassafras
More recently, Jones relocated his family to the Ozark hills of southern Missouri, where one of his new neighbors soon presented him with a small stash of air-dried southern Sassafras, thinking the sculptor might find a use for it. When Jones heard the natural resonance of the timber, he knew it would make a great guitar.
National treasures
Matching his solid Sassafras body to a magnificent, hand-cut Cherry neck, Jones has created an exquisite looking, stunning sounding electric guitar. Frankly, we’re surprised that William Jeffrey Jones instruments are actually allowed out of the US. If they were made here in Australia, they would surely be classified as national treasures, with restrictions against them leaving the country!
Hand-wound P-90 pickups
Hand-wound P-90 pickups, created by Clint Searcy of Searcy String Works, outside Nashville, specifically for the Sassefrax, 3-way switching and volume control provide access to the wide-ranging tones heard in our soundfile. The pickups are reverse-wound for humbucker effect in the middle position.
Cherry neck
The soft-V profile, four-piece Cherry neck features a small, old-school volute, dual-action truss-rod; a 24-fret, 12” radius East Indian Rosewood fingerboard; mother-of-pearl dot markers, (and side markers); graphite nut, (standard 1-11/16" / 43mm width); and Gotoh tuners. Scale length is 25½”. The William Jeffrey Jones headstock logo is hand-cut, inlaid Ebony.
Incredibly sleek and comfortable
Weighing a mere 5lb 15oz / 2.7kg, this is one of the lightest, yet most gloriously resonant electric guitars you will ever strap on. The lower cutaway provides great 23rd and 24th fret access, and with its offset waist and silky-smooth finish, it’s also an incredibly sleek and comfortable guitar. The body is finished in lightly Cherry-tinted Danish Oil, “because it lets the wood sound like wood,” says William Jeffrey Jones. (The Sassafras smells wonderful, too!)

Private collector
One owner from new, (a private collector), and almost never played, the guitar is in Mint- condition, with no wear whatsoever on the low-jumbo frets, (similar to Gibson’s famous ‘Fretless Wonder’ frets). Action is currently set almost illegally low, (again, check out the soundfile!), or can easily be adjusted up to any “mere mortals” level.
